Encoding & Streaming
Media Distribution Services provides the service of encoding video from an edited digital video cassette tape (Mini DV tape). The content can be changed to a media file for faculty, staff, and students' use in a presentation such as Power Point or streamed from a website or server. Editing and encoding can be done through the services in the Media Resource Center in Bldg 2, Rm. 9.

Encoding
The following guidelines will be used when providing digital video encoding services:
- Students need to have a MDS Digital Editor Authorization signed and on file. Additionally, you will need to fill out one of the work order forms available below.
- The media to be encoded must be edited and put on a MiniDV video tape.
- Digital editing is not provided, but may
be performed "hands-on" in Bldg 2, Rm 9. See
Video Editing.
- The submitted video must have 10 seconds of blank space before and after each segment.
- The user must supply the blank DVD-R, or other media to store the encoded product ( DVD-Rs available for purchase at MDS in Bldg 2, Rm. 9).
- Observation of copyright laws is the customer's responsibility.
- Work time depends on workload in progress or length of the submitted video. In other words, don't wait until the end of the quarter and expect it the next day.
- The first 30 minutes of encoding is free of charge. Each additional hour costs $10.

Streaming
For faculty and staff course and department presentations, MDS provides the service of streaming digital video content from the MDS Media Server, which then can be viewed from an instructor's course web page or departmental web page. At this time, there is no charge to have content hosted on the Media Server. While access to view hosted videos is granted to everyone, the Media Server is only available to faculty and staff for uploading/video streaming.
