No tape or disc is necessary for temporary media storage of your footage in the recording process. These units record directly to a built in 30GB Hard Drive in Mpeg 2 format. This allows for quick and easy transfer of the video files directly from the camcorder to a computer or you can burn them directly to a DVD via a USB 2.0 connection.
For transfer of files you are going to want to edit or post to a Web Site simply use the Firewire Connection, located on the dock station, and save the file in your chosen format.
Some Features of the GZ-MG255U:
2 Megapixel CCD
10X Optical Zoom
Excellent Low Light shooting capabilities.
4 Record Modes for up to 37 Hours of Recording Time

Conclusions:
A small, lightweight, easy to use camcorder that records at high quality for long periods of time. Being able to record in Mpeg 2 and then quickly transfer files to a PC or straight to a DVD using USB2 and being able to transfer files using Firewire to save in your preferred format makes this an idea camcorder for non-linear editing, direct posting to a Web Site, or placing video clips into PowerPoint Presentations. I highly recommended you consider a hard drive camcorder for your next camcorder purchase.
